General Information: Saw Palmetto, scientifically known as Serenoa repens, is a small palm native to the southeastern United States. It produces small, dark berries that have been used for centuries in traditional herbal medicine. Saw Palmetto berries are rich in fatty acids and phytosterols, which contribute to their potential health benefits.
Medicinal Use: Saw Palmetto berries are primarily used to support prostate health in men. They contain bioactive compounds that may help reduce the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including urinary urgency, frequency, and nocturia. Saw Palmetto is believed to inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone implicated in the development of BPH. Additionally, Saw Palmetto berries have anti-inflammatory and anti-androgenic properties.
How to Use: Saw Palmetto berries can be consumed as a herbal tea or tincture. To make Saw Palmetto tea, crush 1-2 teaspoons of dried berries and steep them in hot water for about 10-15 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it up to three times a day. Alternatively, Saw Palmetto tincture can be taken orally according to the manufacturer's instructions. For example, you can prepare Saw Palmetto tea by steeping 1 teaspoon of crushed berries in a cup of hot water, then drinking it to support prostate health.
