General Information: Bancha is a type of Japanese green tea that is harvested from the second flush of Sencha between summer and autumn. It is made from the larger, older leaves of the tea plant and is known for its robust flavor and lower caffeine content compared to other green teas. Bancha tea has a slightly earthy and grassy taste, making it a popular choice for daily consumption in Japan.
Medicinal Use: Green Tea (Bancha) is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which help in fighting free radicals and protecting cells from damage. It is known to aid in digestion and can help regulate blood sugar levels. Bancha tea is also believed to boost the immune system, support heart health, and promote weight loss by enhancing metabolism. Additionally, its lower caffeine content makes it suitable for those who are sensitive to caffeine or wish to reduce their intake.
How to Use: To prepare Bancha tea, heat water to around 175°F (80°C) - 185°F (85°C), as boiling water can scorch the delicate leaves. Place one teaspoon of Bancha tea leaves per cup in a teapot or infuser. Pour the hot water over the leaves and let them steep for 2-3 minutes. Strain the tea and pour it into cups. Bancha tea can be enjoyed plain, but you can also add a slice of lemon or a bit of honey to enhance the flavor.
